The 4-wire method uses four test leads, one pair for the injected current (the test lead) and the other pair for sensing the voltage across the resistor Rmeas (the sense lead). Because no current flows in the sense lead, the device measures only the voltage developed across the resistance.

How does a 4-wire measurement work?

It involves the use of an ammeter and voltmeter, determining specimen resistance by Ohm's Law calculation. A current is passed through the unknown resistance and measured. The voltage dropped across the resistance is measured by the voltmeter, and resistance calculated using Ohm's Law (R=E/I).
